It has been one year since 21-year-old Iosefo Qionitoga Magnus was found brutally murdered at the Vesida shortcut off Caubati, and a group of people gathered at the murder scene last night to remember the late Magnus.

The memory of the incident is still fresh in the hearts and minds of his loved ones who gathered at the Vesida shortcut.

Speaking to Fijivillage, Magnus’ cousin Chino Koroivuki says they hope Police find the person who killed Magnus.

Meanwhile, a close friend of Magnus, Koroi Qiolevu says he was with Magnus on the night he passed away.

Viva Tatalouqa of Diva for Equality Fiji who was also at the commemoration says that the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer and Intersex community will not hold back from asking  for justice for Magnus and for every member who is going through the struggle of accessing basic human rights.

When questioned by Fijivillage, Police confirmed that they are yet to make any arrests in relation to the murder of 21-year-old Magnus.

Fijivillage was informed by an eyewitness last year that she had seen the 21-year-old that night with two other men and she had also said that she saw the two men badly beating up the deceased.

Still on the Vesida shortcut off Caubati where the murder took place.

Fijivillage witnessed a group of youths openly smoking marijuana under a tree along the shortcut.

This was also witnessed by families and friends of Magnus that were present at the candlelight ceremony in remembrance of Magnus.

Questions have been sent to Police about the group of youths openly smoking marijuana at the Vesida shortcut last night and we are awaiting their response.

Fijivillage had earlier highlighted concerns raised by residents in the area about youths loitering around the area in the middle of the night and hassling or robbing people.
