Swire Shipping Fijian Drua Head of Athletic Performance Nacanieli Cawanibuka reveals a lot of work had to be carried out to transform the bodies of the Drua players for professional rugby as some joined in a really poor state.
While speaking on a special fijivillage Straight Talk With Vijay Narayan, Cawanibuka says there is a lot of learnings that needs to take place and they have also hired a nutritionist who is teaching the players on the basics on nutrition.
He says the players are learning how to read a food chart on any given product in the supermarkets.
Cawanibuka says the players are in an environment where they understand that sleeping at the right time, putting the right food and portion on the plate, timing of meals and hard training are all important.
Cawanibuka says this is only the start and the players’ families in Fiji also need to understand the importance of diet.
He says a level of discipline has to kick in if we are to beat top teams in the competition.
He talks about his journey, the National 7s Olympic gold medal wins in Rio in 2016 and Tokyo in 2021 and the Fijian Drua’s inaugural Super Rugby Pacific season.
