Good news for cocoa farmers as the local cocoa sample has been selected amongst 50 other samples from 35 countries in France.
The Managing Director of Cacao Fiji Limited, Arif Khan sent the sample from Dreketi Cocoa Project to be part of the International Cocoa Awards competition.
Khan says that out of 146 samples from different countries Fiji cocoa sample was chosen to be one of the top 50.
He says that it is exciting to know that Fiji got recognition after a year of operation.
He says that the awards will place Fiji cocoa on the global map and alleviate the market issues.
Khan says that the industry is looking forward to work closely with their partners to revive this industry.
He says that the 50 bean samples are being processed into chocolate.
The International Cocoa Awards (ICA) ceremony will take place on Wednesday 28 October in the evening.
