Lifeline Fiji has received an enormous boost today in the form of a texting platform where people can donate $1.00 to Lifeline Fiji simply by texting the word “Lifeline” to the number 176.
The platform has been launched by Digicel Fiji.
Lifeline Fiji is currently the only organization in Fiji that is dedicated to suicide prevention, intervention, and response.
Lifeline Fiji so far this year received 1,500 genuine calls.
Officer in Charge, Jeremaia Merekula urges Fijians to text in and donate to the cause as every dollar helps put an officer on the phone to be available to someone during a crisis.
The platform is currently open to Digicel users only.
Meanwhile, Digicel Fiji CEO Mike Greig says he has been told Lifeline Fiji lacks financial resources which is a key challenge and relies on community and public contribution towards the work it does.
He adds today’s launch of the donation platform now gives people the chance to make a contribution towards a worthy cause.
Greig says 100 percent of the $1.00 will go to Lifeline Fiji and customers who donate won’t face any additional charges either.
