Life after professional sports for our sporting heroes, especially rugby is a serious area of concern that the Department of Secondary and Sports Education at the Fiji National University is hoping to improve in terms of player welfare after sports.
This was a sentiment shared by the Assistant Instructor in the Department of Secondary and Sports Education Timoci Tavai while speaking to fijivillage News during the FNU open day today.
Tavai, who hails from Viseisei in Vuda, says they have 3 programes on offer which include a Certificate in Sports Science which is a one-year program, a Trade Diploma in Sports Science which is a 3 year course, and a Bachelor in Sports Science which is also a 3 year course.
He says students who are sports enthusiasts should come and enroll in this program.
He says they are glad that some Swire Shipping Drua Players are at the open day mingling with students.
Swire Shipping Fijian Drua flanker Vilive Miramira told fijivillage News that players should also consider studies while competing in professional sports because they can rely on this to support them financially after rugby.
Miramira says if players have time, they should enroll themselves into the sports science program and they can become future teachers and coaches and strength and conditioning specialists .
