Former St. Joseph's Secondary School student Leyna-May Domonatani Dugu has credited her bronze medal wins at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship to divine interventions.
She won bronze in the junior women's 87+ kg category and the senior division.
Dugu says it was her faith in the Lord that helped her secure those medals and it was her source of strength.
Leyna, who hails fromLovoni, Ono-i-Lautold fijivillage News that her preparations leading up to this tournament were challenging, but after shedding some tears, she prayed to the Lord for peace and it paid off.
Dugu began her athletic career as a swimmer before being introduced to weightlifting by Graham Elder.
Now residing in England, she has participated in the Under-23 English Championships, where she broke the snatch, clean and jerk total record in the Under-23 women's 87+ kg category.
She also competed in the South Pacific Games, finishing fourth in the women's 87 kg category, and won gold at the last Commonwealth Championships in India in the junior division.
