Commissioner Eastern Lieutenant Colonel Ifereimi Vasu has been appointed as the new Commissioner for Prisons and Correctional Services while Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni is now the new Commissioner Eastern.

Both appointments were made by the Public Service Commission and are effective immediately.

Public Service Commission chairman Josefa Serulagilagi said the commission with the concurrence of the Prime Minister and approval of the President has effected Lieutenant Colonel Vasu’s appointment.

Serulagilagi said the position of the Commissioner Prisons is critical to the PSC which not only demands outstanding leadership skills and qualities but a person who is prepared to make a difference in government’s quest for change, transparency and accountability in reforming state institutions and bringing about improved efficiencies in their operations and deliverables.

He said Lieutenant Colonel Vasu, given his leadership qualities and wide experience in the RFMF and the civil service, adequately fulfills the requirements in this regard and as such is the most suitable candidate to continue the excellent work carried out in this role by Brigadier General Naivalurua who will now focus on his role as Police Commissioner.

Lieutenant Colonel Lewewni’s appointment as Commissioner Eastern to replace Lieutenant Colonel Vasu is also in view of his track record and proven experience and achievements in his earlier role in the service.
