Legal Aid Commission Director, Shahin Ali says as the largest provider of free legal services in Fiji, they ensure that Fijians of all backgrounds get access to justice and it is an honour to attend the Universal Periodic Review as part of the Fijian delegation.

The Commission will be part of the Fijian delegation to the   Universal Periodic Review which will be held at the UN headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland from tomorrow.

They will provide an update on their work to provide greater access to all Fijians including the most vulnerable such as women, children, the disabled and persons with special needs.

The commission will also provide reports and statistics on the progress of legal services provided to Fijians.

Ali says the Fijian Constitution recognises and guarantees Fijians a number of human rights and offers protection under the law including the right to be protected from discrimination.

The UPR occurs in a 4.5-year cycle where governments, civil society organisations, human rights defenders work together to promote and protect human rights around the globe.
