Lautoka women secure bus services

Close to 35 women from Vakabuli, Paipai and Drasa in Lautoka have finally managed to secure regular bus services in their areas which had been a problem for many years.

The Executive Director of FRIENDS FIJI, Sashi Kiran said the women of Vakabuli and Paipai identified the problem of irregular bus services during a training session.

She said the 17 ladies of the two communities got together and with the assistance of the Advisory Councillor Samsher Ali, managed to get an extra bus service in their area.

Meanwhile, 17 mothers of Drasa took the initiative in their own hands and wrote to LTA and Fiji Bus Operators to have an extra bus service in their area after women were regularly robbed while waiting for buses at the bus stop.
