The low water level at the Lautoka reservoir cannot cater for the growing population in parts of the Sugar City.
Lautoka’s population in 1996 was 65,579 and in the last census, the population increased to 78,582.
This has put a greater demand for tap water.
This is the confirmation from Water Authority of Fiji after Fijivillage raised questions that some residents are facing water cuts almost every night, for the past two years.
To solve this problem, the Water Authority is in the process of commissioning a new bulk supply main.
This will help with the transfer of water to the affected residents in Lautoka from the Nagado Water Treatment Plant, and is expected to be done by end of this month.
The Authority is currently restricting the night time supply so that the reservoirs have enough water to be able to maintain supply for the whole of next day.
