This $23 million investment is by the P.Meghji Group of Companies Limited.
While speaking at the ground breaking ceremony today, Attorney General and Minister for Finance Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says for many years, Lautoka City has not seen the development of any hotels.
He adds Lautoka as the second city of the country has a limited capacity of hosting events and the new developments will increase this capacity.
Sayed-Khaiyum highlights that a number of legal issues regarding the project were before the court which have been resolved.
He also gave a message to those people who are opposing the project that the site is not taking up all the Shirley Park area but just a small portion of it.
Executive Director of P.Meghji Group of Companies Limited, Romit Meghji says the hotel will have 144 rooms, a conference center of international design and state of the art gymnasium, a business center, boutique shops, spa, restaurants, and a roof top terrace bar with a sitting capacity of 500 people.
