Laterell Mitchell on attack for the Sydney Roosters

Latrell Mitchell will tour Cowboys headquarters in the next 48 hours as the race for the NRL's hottest free agent heats up.

Mitchell has arrived in Townsville and will be given a glimpse of what life could be like as a Cowboy in the next 48 hours, when he meets with North Queensland officials.

The Cowboys have emerged as a serious suitor for Mitchell's services in 2020 and beyond, just under two weeks since they were first linked to the unhappy Roosters star.

The club has the cash to burn and while it has long been rumoured that would be spent on Valentine Holmes should his NFL sojourn at the New York Jets end prematurely, Mitchell's unexpected availability has changed the Cowboys' plans.
