Former lawyer, Shazran Abdul Lateef

Former lawyer, Shazran Abdul Lateef has filed a fresh bail application through his lawyer Devanesh Sharma.

This is the case where Lateef was allegedly found in possession of 0.4 grams of methamphetamine on 23rd March this year.

Police prosecution objected to bail saying that Lateef is a repeat offender and has breached his bail conditions on previous occasions.

It is alleged that Lateef has breached his bail conditions twice.

Lateef has told the Suva Magistrates Court that he has a medical condition whereby he has stones in his kidney and needs proper care.

Lateef also said that there are issues in accessing his counsel because of the COVID-19 pandemic and there are restrictions on visitation from lawyers for their clients.

Suva Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama has asked that parties to file submissions by Monday.

The matter has been adjourned to the 22nd of July.
