Fiji Police Force, the National Fire Authority, the Lami Town Council, friends, families the main organisers, and the Eco Guardians of Fiji were all part of today’s clean up program from Kalekana to Lami Town corridor.
Program organiser retired German Air Force Captain, Rainer Hoehn says people will need to think seriously of protecting their environment.
He says it is sad to see motorist throwing their rubbish on the roads and this has become a norm as this is a beautiful country but people continue to pollute it every day.
Hoehn says Eco Guardians of Fiji was established last year with the main aim of protecting natural resources from pollution.
He says this is the first program organised this year while there are a few more similar activities planned.
Divisional Manager for Community Policing South Superintendent of Police Ruci Nasemira says this is one of the initiatives that the Police will support.
Nasemira says they are involving a lot of children in order to spread the word about pollution.
She says they are cleaning up today and next time they will try to litter, they will think of the efforts done today in trying to clear off all rubbish from the roadsides.
She says they are hoping that they will spread the word about today’s activity to their parents and friends.
Nasemira says one of the initiatives done today was the collection of old tires from the beach by the young people and the Eco Guardians of Fiji paid five dollars for every tire collected.
The program this morning ended with fun and games for the children along with entertainment from the Fiji Police Dance Band.
