Hundreds of people turned up in numbers this morning at the Suva Flea Market to be part of the march to commemorate the arrival of the missionaries on Lakeba Island.
The march is part of the celebration organised by the people of Lakeba living on Viti Levu.
The march started from Flea Market to the Centenary Church and members were singing hymns to commemorate this auspicious day.
Christian missionaries arrived on Lakeba Island on 12th October, 1835.
Board of Directors for the Vunirewa Tribe, Kelepi Gucake says the thanksgiving service today is also to thank God for allowing their ancestors to accept Christianity.
Gucake says back on the island of Lakeba, it’s a one-week celebration, but it’s a one-day celebration for those living in Suva.
He adds the service today will be led by the President of the Methodist Church in Fiji, Reverend Ili Vunisuwai.
