A resident from Lagilagi Housing has raised serious concerns about youths smoking marijuana, sniffing glue, playing volleyball on the road and abusing and vandalising her property while police say they have been conducting visitations in the area for the past few days. Monika Ratnam Singh who has been staying there for the past 3 years, says she is very disappointed with such behaviour of youths as they are doing this openly.

Singh says she has raised the matter with the police numerous times and most of the time police have attended the area however, they have not been able to arrest anyone as the youths run away after seeing the police vehicles. The concerned resident also alleges these youths play volleyball and tyres in the middle of the road, stopping them from travelling and using the roads.

She claims whenever they say something to them, they end up throwing stones and fireworks, threatening them and damaging their property.

Divisional Police Commander South SSP Wate Vocevoce says the station officer at the Raiwaqa Police Station had visited the complainant as she had raised concerns about children playing volleyball in the area.

He says other issues she raised were alleged involvement in illegal activities however, it could not be established.

SSP Vocevoce says she had stated that the main issue was the children playing in the area and was advised that officers would conduct visitations in the area which has been ongoing for the past few days.
