Lack of staff and skilled people results in incomplete work - Malimali

Lack of staff and skilled people were some of the challenges faced by the Fiji Independence Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) that resulted in incomplete work, including investigations and attending to complaints.

This was revealed by the FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali while submitting their 2018-2020 Annual Reports to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence.

Malimali says their cases have been steadily growing over the years, but their challenge lies with staffing.

She says this is why they are asking for a bigger budget so that they could have more staff to take care of certain investigations and complaints that come to them.

The FICAC Commissioner adds they filled 43 spots last year, but the challenge remains.
