Residents of Labasa have raised concern that there is a lot of traffic congestion in Labasa town during cane harvesting season and recommendations have been made to have a bypass road for cane trucks.

People from all sectors of the economy attended the Budget Forum at Labasa College yesterday and raised important matters with Finance Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

The participants also wanted to know if there are plans to relocate the Labasa bus stand and the market.

Commissioner Northern, Jovesa Vocea then highlighted that there are some plans to relocate Labasa market to Subrail Park.

He said they have been discussing this with the Local Government Minister and the Labasa Town Council.

A participant then questioned why there is a talk about shifting Labasa market as a lot of money has been recently poured for the renovation of Labasa market and bus stand.

The participant said tax payer’s money should not be wasted.

Finance Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum then stated that the relocation will not take place soon as planning needs to take place.

He told the participants that even if the relocation takes place, the renovations that have taken place at bus stand and market could be used for other purposes.
