The Land Transport Authority will look at regulating minibus fares if it receives an official complaint from the public on being overcharged by minibus drivers.
This is the comment of LTA CEO Naisa Tuinaceva when questioned on what the Authority is doing about minibus drivers overcharging passengers at certain times.
Tuinaceva said when they receive an official complaint they will treat it like any other complaint and investigate the matter.
Tuinaceva said there may have been a number of complaints already with the Authority however there are certain procedures to follow before it reaches his table.
Fijivillage has observed that by 6pm, minibus drivers are charging passengers $10 which is a $3 increase from the normal fare from Suva to Pacific Harbour or Navua.
Some drivers are charging $5 before 6pm and $10 after 6pm.
When questioned on these charges by mini bus drivers Tuinaceva said this is a clear indication of drivers abusing the provision of not having the fare regulated and they are already mapping out ways they can regulate minibus fares.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Minibuses Association General Secretary Epineri Waqabaca said the drivers are happy with the current fare charges.
