The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer community will be commemorating International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia tomorrow with a march through Suva and other activities at Ratu Sukuna Park.
Rainbow Proud Fiji President and Founder, Isikeli Vulavou says that this will be an important day as it will also be the first time that LGBTQI Movement has been able to secure a permit for a march through Suva City.
Vulavou adds that everyone regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, have the right to equal access to opportunities and services and their safety should be protected and this celebration’s theme ‘Justice and Protection for All” is a timely one for the LGBTQI Community in Fiji.
Management Chair of the Haus of Khameleon, Sulique Waqa also highlighted that over the past decade, protection of the LBGTQI people and all people with diverse sexual orientations have greatly expanded adding that this progress is worth celebrating tomorrow.
Waqa also says it is a day for celebration as well as a day to make key call for actions on relevant stakeholders.
Waqa adds that a lot remains to be done to promote a culture of equality, respect, inclusiveness and diversity encompassing all Fijians and they stand in solidarity with LGBTQI people in Fiji and around the world.
Miki Wali from the Haus of Khameleon says they did not want to talk about same-sex marriage.
The Pride March will begin at 8.30am tomorrow from the Suva Flea Market to Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva.
