Minister for Education Premila Kumar visits Sila Central High School.

Minister for Education Premila Kumar has reminded teachers to have patience with students when schools reopen and has told them that things will not be the same.

Kumar says students have spent more time at home than in school this year and they expect children to behave in a different way.

She made these comments while visiting the teachers at Sila Central High School and Vunimono High School in Nausori today.

Kumar has also revealed the 2022 school year will begin in April which is when students will be progressing to the next level.

She says when Year 1 to 11 students return to school either the end of next month or January next year, that will be Term 4 where they will continue with this year’s work.

There will be four school terms next year.

She says Term 1 for next year’s academic year will start in April.

With Years 12 and 13 starting on November 1st, Kumar says they are hoping to resume school for Years 1 to 11 very soon.

She adds they are waiting for the vaccination rates to further improve and the active cases to go down.
