The villagers of Korovisilou in Serua are grateful to the government for establishing a vocational centre, Ratu Latianara Vocational Centre, close to their village, which provides skills and opportunities for school dropouts to further their studies and secure better jobs in life.
Korovisilou Village Headman Ratu Emitai Sokosoko says the guidance provided by elders in the village opened the children's minds to venture into trade courses.
Ratu Emitai says another challenge is drugs, which everyone in the village is working together to combat.
He says their aim is to prevent its impact on the youths in the village.
He further says they conduct sporting activities in the village, such as rugby league and 15s rugby, so the youths can utilise themselves in training and avoid falling sideways.
He adds youths living in the village are required to abide by the village law and foremost to respect the elderly.
