Fiji Water Flying Fijians flanker, Kitione Salawa scored a hat-trick to help Fiji thrash Samoa 42-16. Salawa scored Fijis first try to take the lead 5-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game.
The Tevita Ikanivere-captained side was penalized outside their 10-metre line, leaving Samoa’s flyhalf to add three points for his side.
Samoa responded with another try after they broke through the Flying Fijians' defence for a 10-5 lead.
Twenty-five minutes in, Samoa kept attacking and extended their lead after converting a penalty kick outside Fiji’s 22-metre line, bringing the score to 13-5.
Fiji scored another try from centre Iosefo Masi closing the scoreline to 13-12.
Lock Temo Mayanavanua was sent to the sin bin, leaving Samoa to convert another penalty kick for a 16-12 lead.
Fiji was able to close the score at the stroke of halftime, after flyhalf Caleb Muntz was able to convert a penalty kick 22 metres out.
Fiji began the second half on a high note with Muntz kicking a penalty kick to extend their lead to 18-16.
Salawa scored his second try of the night, after driving a maul from a lineout from 10 metres out, leaving Muntz to add two extra points for a 25-16 lead.
Halfback and man of the match Frank Lomani scored another try to extend their lead 32-16.
Debutant fullback Vuate Karawalevu scored a try, bringing the score to 37-16.
Salawa dotted down for his third try to seal the game in the 80th minute, bringing the final score to 42-16.
