The new nephrologist recruited by the Health Ministry will be in the country in about six weeks while the Nadera Dialysis Centre will be ready by the middle of this year as fifteen dialysis machines procured by the Health Ministry is making its way from New Zealand.
Two Dialysis Centres have also been identified in Nadi and Lautoka but the Health Ministry is yet to confirm which one they will use.
Health Minister Ifereimi Waqainabete who says the local nephrologist that the was with the Ministry resigned last year.
Waqainabete says nephrologists worldwide are in short supply because it is a specific area of medicine.
Waqainabete adds the Dialysis Centre in Nadera will be like a hospital on its own.
Waqainabete says they have dialysis services currently being run out of Labasa which is subsidised.
Subsidised dialysis costs $75.
He says they also have acute dialysis that happens at CWM and Lautoka Hospitals for those that are acutely ill.
