The RFMF Commander Brigadier General Jone Kalouniwai took part in his first international engagement on Thursday in the virtual meeting of the Chief of Defence Forces in the Indo-Pacific Region.
Admiral John Aquilino who is the Commander of United States Indo-Pacific Command hosted the meeting which was attended by more than 20 Heads of Defence Forces in the region.
The meeting was a follow up from the face to face meeting that was last held in Hawaii in August.
It was also an opportunity for Admiral Aquilino to welcome Kalouniwai to the forum and introduce him to other Chiefs of Defences Forces.
The Commander RFMF was also given the opportunity to address the forum and provided an update on the RFMF’s role in support of the Fijian Government’s initiative in the fight against COVID-19.
Kalouniwai also conveyed former Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto’s appreciation of the forum’s continuous support.
In a statement, the RFMF says several issues common to all armed forces within the region were raised in the meeting.
These include transnational security, maritime security, climate change adaptation, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, regional security architecture and COVID-19.
