The Kaiviti Silktails have left for Australia to take part in the upcoming Ron Massey Cup competition.

Coach and former Fiji Bati captain Wes Naqaima says the team are grateful to be based in Sydney to participate in the 2021 competition after a disappointing outing last year where they played only one match before the competition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chairman of the Kaiviti Silktails and rugby league legend, Petero Civoniceva says they could not have done this without the support from the New South Wales Government, the PacificAus Sports program and the Australian High Commission.

Civoniceva says playing a full season of the Ron Massey Cup is a crucial next step for the club as they aspire to play in the Canterbury Cup in the future, while providing a clear pathway for talented Fijians to play rugby league in Australia.

They will also observe all the Australian Government and New South Wales Government requirements for entry into Australia and subsequent compulsory quarantine period.
