High Court Judge, Justice Kamal Kumar has been sworn in as the new Chief Justice.
Chief Justice Kumar was acting in the post for 2 years and 3 months and has served for Fiji’s High Court since 2013.
He acquired his Bachelor of Law from the Queensland University of Technology, Australia in 1999 and was admitted as a barrister to the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of Queensland.
From 2000 to May 2013, he was a lawyer at Young & Associates, Solicitors, Lautoka and was sworn in as a judge in the High Court of Fiji (Civil Division), a post he retained from May 2013 to 7 April 2019.
In September 2018, he was appointed as Chairperson for the Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission.
His appointment as Chairperson for the Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission has been extended for another 3 years from January 2021 until 2024.
