The Land Transport Authority, in collaboration with the Fiji Police Force and key stakeholders, is gearing up for a targeted joint enforcement operation to ensure the safety and security of students and the public during the 2024 Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Super Deans Championship.
LTA Acting Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa says as the Deans finals draw large crowds and enthusiastic supporters from across the nation, unruly behavior that compromises public safety or violates traffic laws would not be tolerated as the joint enforcement teams would be monitoring and observing movements on our roads.
Rokosawa says Particular attention will be given to monitoring and preventing unruly behavior by passengers, including students who dangerously wave school flags outside the parameters of moving buses.
He says such actions not only endanger the lives of the traveling public but also pose a serious risk to other road users.
Rokosawa says public safety is paramount and they have zero tolerance for any behavior that endangers lives or disrupts public order.
Furthermore, they are working closely with the Fiji Police Force and other stakeholders to ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations and to promote a safe environment for all.
He stresses that joint enforcement teams would be deployed to monitor adherence to traffic rules and regulations at designated checkpoints and areas leading to the sports venue.
Drivers are also encouraged to exercise vigilance and caution, especially in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.
