In his first hours as president, Joe Biden plans to take executive action to roll back some of Donald Trump's most controversial decisions including ending Trump’s restriction on immigration to the US from some Muslim-majority countries, moving to rejoin the Paris climate accord and mandating mask-wearing on federal property and during interstate travel.
In a memo sent to staff, incoming chief of staff Ron Klain said the first 10 days of Biden's term would see him deliver a blitz of executive actions.
According to the memo, there are roughly a dozen actions Biden will take on his first day in the White House.
The day after Biden’s inauguration, he will sign orders related to the COVID-19 outbreak aimed at reopening schools and businesses and expanding virus testing.
There will be action on providing economic relief to those suffering the economic costs of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, military leaders have called on states for more National Guard troops to help lock down much of Washington DC in the days before Biden's inauguration.
