Double Olympic gold medal winner and Fiji Airways Men’s 7s legend Jerry Tuwai will receive an incentive of $33,300 from the government before the National 7s team leaves the country for the 2024 Paris Olympics, which will be held from July 26th to Aug 11th 2024.
This incentive is a token of appreciation for Tuwai’s achievement with the Fiji Men’s 7s side.
Minister of Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru says Tuwai led our National 7s team to their second Olympic Games gold medal in Tokyo back in 2020 and is the only rugby player to win two Olympic gold medals.
He further says that as soon as the team is selected, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will also announce the team's incentives.
A residential lot has already been bought by the Fijian Government at Tacirua East subdivision for the national team captain as part of the previous Government's incentives.
Meanwhile, National 7's coach Osea Kolinisau has named a 20-member extended squad to prepare for the Olympics.
The team will be later trimmed down to 13 players two weeks from the Olympics.
The Fiji Men’s 7s side will be hosting the Australian 7s team for 4 scrimmaging sessions next week.
The Fiji 7s team will leave for the Olympics on the 1st of next month.
