Double Olympics gold medalist, Jerry Tuwai will receive the $33,000 promised to him by the former government for the construction of his house.
Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru has announced today that the payment will be made before the men's national 7s side heads to France for the Olympics Games.
Tuwai brought immense pride to the nation with his outstanding performances on the rugby field and his dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed, and the government is committed to supporting him in any way possible.
Saukuru expressed his delight in being able to fulfill the promise made to Tuwai and said Tuwai is a true champion and a role model for our youth and it is only fitting that he receives the support he was promised to build his house.
Tuwai says he is grateful for the support and recognition from the government and expressed his gratitude and said he is humbled by this gesture and thankful for the support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
He says the incentive will help him build a home for his family.
