Heavy rain in the Western Division has not deterred Jasper Williams High School U19 team preparing to face Saint Thomas High School in their first game in the Pherrus Trophy Fiji Secondary Schoolgirls Rugby League Competition tomorrow.
While speaking to fijivillage News, Jasper captain, Anaseini Rogosau says even though this is the first time for the girls to participate in rugby league, she hopes the girls will perform well this season.
Rogosau says it has been raining throughout this week but the girls have not lost hope as they continue with their training with the knowledge that they have to showcase their talents and skills on the ground tomorrow.
The 17-year-old is encouraging parents and supporters of Jasper to come in numbers and show their support.
Fiji Secondary School Girls Rugby League Coordinator, Vaseva Saulekaleka says 26 schools have shown their interest in taking part in the 2024 School Girls competition this year compared to six schools when the competition began in 2020.
Saulekaleka says the challenges faced in the past three years have not affected the girls in participating in rugby league.
Jasper will play Saint Thomas at Churchill Park ground 3 tomorrow.
