Former Fiji Bati star Jarryd Hayne has been sentenced to a maximum five years and nine months jail for the sexual assault of a woman on the night of the 2018 NRL Grand Final.

He will be eligible for parole after three years and eight months.

The 33-year-old was found guilty in March by a jury of the sexual assault of the then 26-year-old woman at her Newcastle home in September 2018.

In sentencing Hayne, Judge Helen Syme says it was very clear she said no several times.

Judge Syme says Hayne only stopped because he “noticed the blood” not because she told him to.

Hayne intends to appeal.
