Villagers of Buva in Nadroga will now have daily access to water as the Japanese government has granted $227,729 to Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation’s project to improve their water supply system.
Village Headman, Nikotimo Sulala says they have three electricity-powered boreholes that only supplies water twice a week to 60 houses.
Sulala says it is not enough to have only two days of water supply but they have to control the cost of electricity used to power their boreholes.
He adds water will now be supplied daily as they will switch to solar-powered boreholes, and they will not be burdened by the cost of electricity.
He further says this will also help them live healthier and reduce the risk of communicable diseases.
Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation’s project to improve the water supply system in villages will also be carried out in Veivatuloa and Namaqumaqua villages.
