A grant assistance of $17 million is about to be approved by the Japanese Government this month which will be given to Fiji.
This was stated by Japan’s Ambassador to Fiji, Omura Masahiro last night as they gathered to celebrate The Emperor of Japan’s 60th birthday.
He says the assistance provides important materials to improve resilience against natural disasters which includes tsunami warning sirens.
Omura says Japan is also supporting the Fijian Government for the flood control project in the Nadi River.
He also says the Japan International Corporation Agency is conducting technical assistance in the area of meteorology, electricity, water supply, disaster risk reduction, shipping and waste management.
President Jioji Konrote was the chief guest while the Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and other Minster’s including Defence Minister Inia Seruiratu, Minister for Women, Mereseini Vuniwaqa and Minister for Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau were present at the event.
