The Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister has welcomed that the general election in Fiji was conducted in a peaceful manner on 17th September.
In a statement, Fumio Kishida said Japan considers the general elections as an important step toward the consolidation of democracy in Fiji.
He said that Japan will continue to support Fiji’s effort toward the promotion of democracy and further develop co-operative relationship between Fiji and Japan.
He further said that Japan dispatched election observers to the Multi National Observers Group and performed monitoring of the elections.
He added that Japan also supports the positive evaluation by the group which states that the conditions were in place for Fijians to exercise their right to vote freely and the outcome of the 2014 Fijian Elections is on track to broadly represent the will of Fijian voters.
