Vodafone Fijiana XVs captain Merewai Cumu knows it is not going to be an easy task for her team trying to beat the Japanese Women’s XVs side in tomorrow’s clash, but they are up for the challenge ahead.
Cumu says the expectations from the fans are high after claiming the Oceania Women’s Rugby Championship last two weeks and qualifying for the Women’s Rugby World Cup in England next year, so they need to perform to the best of their abilities.
The 26-year-old says Japan is a well-structured team and they will be playing their style of rugby tomorrow, but the Fijiana side will make sure to execute their game plans well.
When asked if she feels a lot of pressure leading her country for the first time in front of their home fans, Cumu says she is a little bit nervous but she is thankful for the support she has been receiving from her teammates.
Cumu says the players are excited for tomorrow's game and they are looking forward to giving Japan a good game.
The Fijiana will take on Japan at 6pm tomorrow at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva in their first test match. Tickets are $15 for the grandstand and $5 for grass seating and children under 12 will enjoy free admission.
