The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side understands that 2024 is a massive year for them as they will be vying for a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Hosts France men and women have pre-qualified, while the remaining 11 nations will qualify through three routes.
The top four nations, excluding France, at the conclusion of the HSBC SVNS 2023/2024 season will secure the men's and women's spots.
An Olympic Qualification Tournament was organised by every World Rugby Regional Association between 31st May and 31st December 2023, with the winner of each of the designated men’s and women’s tournaments earning a place at Paris 2024.
To complete the twelve teams, the remaining men’s and women’s spots will be offered to the winner of the World Rugby Final Olympic Repechage Tournament that will be held after the HSBC SVNS 2023/2024 season.
Coach Saiasi Fuli says they are currently fourth in the HSBC SVNS points table, and they will need to build a solid foundation with positive momentum in this new year.
He says the team had a little break during the festive season, and he is very impressed with the turnout of the girls, sacrificing their time to continue to train.
Fuli says there are no serious injuries within the team, and some players are returning from rehab.
He adds they will need a fully fit squad heading into this year’s sevens competition.
The Fijiana 7s side will also be fielding a team in the McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast 7s next week.
The Perth 7s will be held from the 26th to the 28th of this month.
