Italian police have seized what they believe is a world-record haul of 14 tonnes of the highly addictive drug amphetamine which they suspect were made in Syria to finance the jihadist group Islamic State.
Officers tracked three containers to the port of Salerno in southwest Italy and found 84 million pills with a market value of 1.12 billion US dollars inside large drums.
BBC News reports the drug has also been consumed by combatants in the civil war in Syria, including Islamic State militants, who value its ability to inhibit fear and remove tiredness.
