Australian High Commission Charge d' Affaires John Williams says the security of the Pacific is in the hands of the Pacific people, and strong democratic governance will be vital in this.
While officiating at the 24th Attorney-General's Conference at Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, Nadi, Williams says it is an important time now to support democratic governance, including here in the Pacific.
He says, as the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Penny Wong has said numerous times, they want to work with Fiji and other Pacific partners to build a region that is peaceful, prosperous and resilient.
He adds they will be looking at having a sharper impact with governance programs and engagement and doing more where they can.
The Australian High Commission Charge d' Affaires says in Fiji they are looking forward to building on governance work, including programs supporting the national parliament, media capacity building and electoral administration.
