Airports Fiji Limited has been informed by its New Zealand-based consultant Beca that their contractor Supersealing from Australia will be returning to Nausori Airport this evening to carry out inspection and remedial works to the runway.
Over the last few days Beca has also taken a number of sealant samples for testing purposes to help identify the cause of the problem.
The AFL anticipates that they should be in a position by mid next week to advise when B737 operations will resume from Nausori Airport.
Fiji Airways had said last week that the Nausori Airport runway is unsuitable for its B737 aircraft.
Fiji Airways has confirmed that their consultants have recommended further remedial works to the runway surface.
It states that until the recommended remedial works are carried and the runway meets Fiji Airways safety requirements, the airline will continue to transfer ticketed customers to and from Suva via Nadi to Sydney and Auckland.
