It is finally here – a song for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua.
One of Fiji’s top bands, Inside Out has released the Drua’s new theme song that will now be played in every game that they play in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition.
The song is called “Drua” and you can catch it on our CFL radio stations and website, fijivillage.
In an interview with fijivillage News this morning, band leader and songwriter Apakuki Nalawa commonly known by many as “Kuki” says they were approached by the Fijian Drua management at the beginning of the year to create an anthem for the team.
Nalawa says the song is derived from the “i-bole” or the Drua war cry that they usually perform before every game. He says as a songwriter, he is truly privileged and honoured to be writing a song for the Drua.
He adds it is great to see that sports franchises are looking to local talents in the music industry to amplify their presence and also to help boost the players’ morale.
The band performed at the Fijian Drua base camp in Legalega Nadi yesterday and Nalawa says it was an amazing feeling seeing how the team responded and sang along to their songs.
The Fijian Drua will run out to their theme song for the first time at Churchill Park tomorrow when they take on the Crusaders at 1.05pm.
