Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama says the Independent Legal Services Commission ensures that Fijians are provided with the highest quality of legal services, and the commission’s role in keeping the legal practitioners in check acts as a deterrent from misconduct and malpractice.

While speaking in parliament on the motion to debate the Review Report on the Independent Legal Services Commission Annual Report 2016, Bainimarama says the commission ensures that the people are protected by the unscrupulous actions of some lawyers.

Bainimarama says the report also highlights the measures taken by the commission after the 2014 fire and he has applauded the commission for engaging Ernst and Young to undertake the audit. He says he is also confident that the new measures in place will safeguard the members of the commission and enhance the integrity of the institution.

He says the commission also supports legal education programs for law practitioners and the recruitment of aspiring legal minds in internship programs.
