It was a momentous day for 445 students of Suva Grammar School after they became the pioneers of school cadet pass out after two failed attempts.
The 445 students are from Year 9 to Year 13.
While addressing the students at their pass out parade at Albert Park, Assistant Minister for Education Iliesa Vanawalu commended the school for the introduction of military drills in the school to develop students and instill discipline as well as some current physical activities that promote fitness.
Vanawalu says this training is provided to the young ones and will hopefully strengthen their characters and make them more responsible in their future career undertaking.
The Assistant Minister also highlighted that we see an appalling range of moral decay in our society today, be it cybercrime, youth violence, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse or even suicide and to safeguard the children from this seems to be a challenging task for everybody.
Vanawalu says in the face of challenges surrounding our youngsters now, cadet training should be the answer.
He adds cadet training should not be seen as only physical drills.
The pass out parade was attended by students of Suva Grammar School, old scholars, parents and stakeholders of the school.
