Passengers arriving into the country will now be processed through the brand new Arrivals Immigration area at the Nadi International Airport.
Eight new immigration counters became operational yesterday and this will eventually increase to 14 in a couple of months' time when the new arrivals area is fully completed.
Airports Fiji Limited says the most critical change in the immigration areas is that the holding space has significantly increased.
A number of fixed concrete walls have also been replaced with glazers further creating a sense of space and a sense of presence of the new architecture.
The AFL says these together with the increase in immigration counters will result in a more comfortable passenger experience with faster processing times for passengers.
