Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau confirms that the treated water from the Viria Water Treatment Plant is already being supplied to Baulevu, Verata-Wailevu, Nausori and Tailevu South Rewa areas, and these communities have noted improved water supply.
Ro Filipe confirms that it will not take 5 months for the system to come online as the Water Authority of Fiji is actively managing water supply, and all works are ongoing within the existing water supply scheme, such as the leak detection and rectification works and installation of pressure sensors and air valves along the pipelines to enhance monitoring and reduce burst main occurrences. He also says the requests from the Vanua of Viria in terms of water supply, roads and issues such as employment are reasonable and being considered.
He adds that there are other requests that they are looking into with the Office of the Attorney General and with the Ministry of Lands, given the monetary and legal implications.
The Minister says the final step of the Commissioning Certificate of the Viria Water Treatment Plant is pending issuance and awaiting the required documentation from contractors.
fijivillage News has sent further questions to the Minister of Public Works to confirm the dates for the opening of the Viria Water Treatment Plant.
