Concerns have been raised by community members in Levuka that the consumption of grog on their island has spiralled out of control, and they are calling on the Government to impose a tax on grog.
The concerned members of the community told fijivillage News that the high tax should be put on grog and the Government should assist local farmers in exports.
They have shared stories of how some farms are now lying idle, as workers and farmers consume more grog and are struggling to maintain their focus on farming.
They have suggested that imposing a higher tax on grog could potentially deter its over consumption, thus safeguarding the productivity on the island.
The members of the community hope their concerns would be heard and that steps would be taken to restore balance and productivity to their beloved island.
