Fiji will soon become a nation of zombies if drug issues are not solved and if we do not cooperate and find solutions to this drug pandemic then matters will exceed beyond our control.
This was highlighted by Suva Muslim College Year 11 student Elenoa Drole Kalougata during the International Day Against Drug Abuse
and Illicit Trafficking oratory contest at Suva Grammar School yesterday.
Kalougata who is from Nagigi village in Savusavu and shares maternal links to Waci in Lakeba Lau captured the audience and judges with her unique personality and compelling message of drug awareness and says that a social problem needs a social solution. She says drugs like marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamine will consume people who casually engage in them and will destroy their lives, their families, and their communities.
Kalougata says the statistics are alarming, stressing the 94 percent increase in illicit drugs cases in January this year compared to 87 percent for the same period last year.
While stressing on the importance of staying away from these hard drugs because it is addictive, the Year 11 student says we need to change the narrative of drug abuse and win the minds and hearts of people to fight this drug pandemic we are facing and advocate more on responsibilities.
