Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama says if a Pacific Island nation can achieve net-zero emissions, then the larger developed nations in the world should not have any excuses.
While officiating at new Regional Pacific Nationally Determined Contribution Hub Office in Nabua, Bainimarama says when we lead by example, we lead with credibility, we bring real commitment and solutions to addressing this crisis.
He says we are still in the midst of the cyclone season in the South Pacific and in Fiji’s case Topical Cyclones Sarai and Tino have served us brutal reminders of the danger it poses to our citizens.
Bainimarama says he draws great optimism from the passion and innovation that policymakers and experts are supplying their efforts through this regional hub.
He says grinding the gears of a global change can be slow and frustrating but the courageous commitments emerging from Fiji and the rest of the Pacific fill him with faith that the rest of the world will soon follow suit.
Bainimarama also thanked the New Zealand, British, German and Australian governments for making the office a reality.
