Mikaele Vaka-silimili-ratu of Marist Brothers High School says he wished his grandfather was still alive to watch him win gold in the Sub-Junior Boys 1,500 metres at the Suva Zone 2 athletics meet at the ANZ Stadium this morning.
He says his grandfather would have definitely come to watch him if he was alive.
Vakasilimiliratu says he thought about his grandfather during the race.
Suva Grammar School is now leading both divisions.
In the boy's division, Suva Grammar School is leading with 8 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze while Marist Brothers High School is second with 6 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze.
Lomary Secondary School is in third place with 2 silver medals.
SGS is leading with 5 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze in the girl's division while Saint Joseph's Secondary School is now second with 5 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze.
Lomary Secondary School has further dropped to third place with 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
Suva Grammar School dominated the boys 1,500 metres finals this morning.
They won three gold medals through Manoa Puamau in the Junior Boys 1,500 metres, John Riccardo in the Intermediate Boys 1, 500 metres and Abraham Mallan in the Senior Boys 1,500 metres.
